My Story

Part I: The Foundation – Stories, Schools, and Ambition

I was born into a classic middle-class family where the value of hard work wasn’t just taught—it was lived. My father worked for Glaxo and my mother for Boots, providing a stable, corporate backdrop to my childhood. However, the true "magic" of my early years happened in the company of my grandfather. A lawyer by profession, he was a master storyteller. Sitting by his side, I didn’t just hear anecdotes; I learned how a well-told story could bridge gaps and command a room.

My academic journey began at King George High School (now Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya). I was a bright, hardworking student with a growing hunger to make my mark. This drive led me to the commerce stream at R A Podar College for my junior college years, eventually transitioning to the prestigious Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics. It was within the halls of Sydenham that a specific dream took root: an MBA in Finance from the USA.

Part II: The Detour – From the Middle East to a "Stark Reality"

I have always valued independence. When the time came to fund my American dream, I refused to lean on my father’s hard-earned savings. Instead, I took a leap of faith and moved to the Middle East with KPMG. I spent my time there accumulating "euro rials," every cent earmarked for my future at Case Western University, from which I had already secured my I-20.

Everything seemed to be falling into place until the day of my visa interview. In a single moment, the dream shattered. My visa was rejected on the grounds of being a "probable immigrant."

The months that followed were dark. I fell into a deep depression, grappling with the weight of a derailed plan. But as they say, when one door closes, you find a way to build a new house. I decided that if I couldn't go to America, I would bring the American corporate excellence to me. I joined American Express as an Assistant Manager in Internal Audit.

Part III: The Spark – Meeting Narain Aneja and the Birth of K Square

My time at Amex was transformative, but the true turning point came when I met Narain Aneja. He didn't just mentor me; he infected me with the "entrepreneurial bug." I realized I wanted to create something that didn't exist in the market—a bridge between global standards and local sensibilities.

That realization became K Square.

We founded K Square with a clear mission: to provide world-class consulting experiences fuelled by Indian values and delivered at Indian prices. We started with a focus on Process Improvement and evolved into a full-stack ISO Consulting Firm. Today, I am incredibly proud of the reputation we’ve built. We aren’t just "checking boxes"; we are known for the "best and in-spirit" ISO implementation in the marketplace.

Part IV: My Mission – Making Process Orientation "Cool"

Beyond the spreadsheets and certifications, I am a storyteller at heart—a trait I carry from my grandfather. I love the stage. Whether I’m at a corporate event, an educational institution, or a large-scale conference, I find my energy in connecting with people, cracking jokes, and, most importantly, making process orientation cool.

My content is built on a single pillar: Awareness.

I’ve observed that most companies make suboptimal choices during their growth journey simply because they don’t know any better. They choose the only path they see. My ambition is to change that. I want to empower leaders to make choices while being completely aware of every option on the table.

I’m Mahesh Kasbekar. I believe in the power of a solid process, the impact of a good story, and the infinite potential of a well-informed choice. Let’s build something great together.
